Going across the tabs from left to right…

Boner plan not that hard to figure out.

In a new study released by NDN today, we calculate that the plan released by John Boehner yesterday would add more than $3 trillion to the deficit over the next ten years.

That the new economic plan from the House Republican Leader explodes the deficit and does nothing meaningful to cut government spending raises very real questions about the Washington Republican Party’s commitment to the promise of a new age of austerity and fiscal rectitutde Republican victories will bring.

“Skeptical” environmentalist not so skeptical now that EVER MORE evidence is in.

With scientific data piling up showing that the world has reached its hottest-ever point in recorded history, global-warming skeptics are facing a high-profile defection from their ranks. Bjorn Lomborg, author of the influential tract “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” has reversed course on the urgency of global warming, and is now calling for action on “a challenge humanity must confront.”

All the deniers that quoted him will now either A) stop doing so or B) keep doing so and ignore this latest shift of opinion (made after new evidence came in, which is the mark of a good thinker, not a flip-flopper).

Aaaah, Teabaggers are so cute when they’re playing the victim.   I’ll tell ya what, this country’s history has been notable for our poor treatment of upper-middle class white folks.  It’s a crime, a crime, I tell ya.

You’ll have to read about it (since the 24-hour networks don’t do this kind of reporting), but here’s a bunch of stuff that got fixed/built/upgraded because of the stimulus.

Add Stephen Hawking to the list of “people Fox News tells me to hate”.

[Hawking] cites the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting a star other than the Sun.

“That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions — the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass — far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings.”

Indeed, but who brings logic to an emotional fight?

Republican leaders outraged, OUTRAGED, that Obama doesn’t give credit to Bush for winning the War in Iraq.  (yes, yes, I know there are about 12 logical inconsistencies in that outrage, but a short memory is very politically “in” nowadays).

This is pretty consistent with most bigotry…

Sentiments about the center appear to be heavily shaped by personal background and experiences. New Yorkers who have visited mosques or have close Muslim friends are more likely to support the center than those who have few interactions with Islam.

More than half, 53 percent, of city residents with incomes over $100,000 back the center; only 31 percent of those with incomes under $50,000 agree. Protestants are evenly divided, while most Catholics and Jewish New Yorkers oppose the center.

Age also plays a role. Those under 45 are evenly divided (42 percent for, 43 percent against); among those over 45, nearly 60 percent are opposed.

I find it completely unsurprising that those who interact more with Muslims are less afraid of them.  Personally I find them to be like good Christians (the kind that *act* like they believe in the stuff Jesus said about enemies, turning cheeks, and how often and thoroughly we should judge others that we have never met).

Glenn Beck with more anti-smart-people talk. It’s a proven law, the more educated you are, the less likely you fall for snake oil salesmen.  This is why Beck hates educated people.  I’ve also noticed in my personal life that those who fail at college, tend to hold it against everyone who didn’t.

Another MM link.  There’s been a consistent medai buzz (from all sides) about “Obama’s falling poll numbers”.  Except that they aren’t, and for the first time in a while, it’s more positive than negative. Journalists at the more objective news outlets won’t make a big deal out of this for fear of being type-cast by “journalists” at the completely subjective ones.

Here’s the graph.

Yes, we avoided a huge mistake a couple years ago. I think we should still be patting ourselves on the back for that.

And finally, yes, finally…Duke Nukem’ (takes) Forever is to be released.     This is always a treat, and I’m glad they’ll finally be able to finish it.
