KABUL — An American soldier wandered outside his base in a remote southern Afghan village shortly before dawn Sunday and allegedly opened fire on civilians inside homes, killing at least 16, Afghan and U.S. officials said.

There’s no coming back from this one, if it was even possible before.  I don’t even think the public execution of this guy would alleviate the insult, the massacre, or protect the folks that sponsored it.

It’s still a bit early, and more details will cone out….but this is bad.  In every sense.
