Apple Maps and Gun Nuts…a Deadly Combination

(CBS/AP) LILBURN, Ga. – A 69-year-old suburban Atlanta man faces a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a 22-year-old man who had mistakenly driven into his driveway.

An arrest warrant states that Rodrigo Abad Diaz of Duluth, Ga., was fatally shot in the head Saturday as he tried to drive away from Phillip Sailors’ home in Lilburn, northeast of Atlanta.

According to Diaz’s friends, who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident, the 22-year-old had received incorrect directions from a GPS device which led him to Sailors’ driveway, the Atlantic Journal-Constitution reports. They were in the area to pick up a friend.

I’ll bet the old coot thought he was “protectin’ ‘Murica”.

And this is why DOMA needs to die a quick death.  Well…the 120,000th reason it does.

Looks like Taking the Economy Hostage (over and over again) is the Republican’s Plan

Washington Post http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/01/23/what-happened-when-i-asked-paul-ryan-why-he-hates-taxes/

Asked where Republicans will get the leverage to force a spending-cuts only plan after losing an election, Ryan ticked off the coming moments when House Republicans could, by refusing to pass legislation, hurt the economy. “We have a sequester kicking in on March the 1st. We have a continuing resolution expiring on March the 27th. We have budgets that, if the Senate decides to do its job this year, will come out in April, so we can have a debate about how to fix the problem, not if to fix the problem, and you have a debt limit coming right after that.”

You’d think this kind of B.S. would make the Republicans in Congress very unpopular….and it has. Their thinking (really, read the article to the end) is that their approval rating can’t get much lower…but why not try?

83 year old Librarian Tells You that You Don’t Own Your Phone (DMCA is back, back again. Tell a friend….get fined $250,000)

Phone unlocking ban could could hit you in the wallet | PCWorld http://www.pcworld.com/article/2026236/phone-unlocking-ban-could-could-hit-you-in-the-wallet.html

The ban means that you won’t be able to (lawfully) decouple your phone from one carrier and move to another carrier that uses the same cellular technology (GSM, CDMA, etc.) unless your carrier agrees to send you an unlock code. Imagine buying a car equipped with software that prevents you from taking certain roads—and being legally barred from disabling the software! The wireless carriers will unlock phones under certain circumstances, but they don’t like to. For instance AT&T will unlock your iPhone if you can prove you are a current or former AT&T subscriber, that your iPhone was “designed for use on the AT&T network,” and that you are in complete compliance with “all contract obligations, including any term commitment.”

The DMCA was a law signed by Clinton and written by Hollywood that makes ALL our media WAAAAAY more expensive (and profitable).

What Happens When Fear and Paranoia Drive Your Political Ideology

Republican fear factor – Salon.com http://www.salon.com/2012/05/03/republican_fear_factor_salpart/

The White House has been usurped by a Kenyan socialist named Barry Soetero, who hatched an elaborate plot to pass himself off as a citizen of the United States –a plot the media refuse to even investigate. This president doesn’t just claim the right to assassinate suspected terrorists who are beyond the reach of law enforcement –he may be planning on rounding up his ideological opponents and putting them into concentration camps if he is reelected. He may have murdered a blogger who was critical of his administration, but authorities refuse to investigate. At the very least, he is plotting on disarming the American public after the election, in accordance with a secret deal cut with the UN and possibly with the assistance of foreign troops.

There is more and more science being done on brain chemistry and political stances. Read the article I just linked for sources. As it’s science they won’t like, conservatives will feel a strong urge to dismiss it out of hand or claim those doing the science or mentioning it are part of the conspiracy…which means it can be dismissed out of hand. See how hard it is to return to reality from that mindset? So do we, conservatives….so do we.

The Fox Effect on Our National Psyche

Gallup: American Optimism Hits Lowest Point Since Carter Administration « CBS DC http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/01/22/gallup-american-optimism-hits-lowest-point-since-carter-administration/

The negativity about the current state of the US has a politically partisan split – Republicans stated that the country’s best days have already passed and Democrats say the best days have not happened yet. Seventy-five percent of Democrats gave positive reviews of how the nation will be five years from now, but only 15 percent of Republicans were positive – a 60 percent partisan gap.

It is very, very difficult to live on a steady diet of echo-chamber regurgitated outrage and be optimistic about much of anything.

And Ralph Nader Jumps the Shark (psst, Ralph…go play FTL)

Not one to keep his opinion to himself, former presidential candidate Ralph Nader has come down hard on video games. In fact, he has gone as far as to call the companies that make them “electronic child molesters.”

In an interview with Politico yesterday, Nader blasted President Obama’s gun control package that was unveiled last week. The two-time Green Party presidential candidate said that the president’s plan needs to go further in regulating video game creators that add violence to their games.

“Television program violence? Unbelievable. Video game violence? Unprecedented,” Nader told Politico.

And so Ralph accelerates the slides into irrelevance.

I can see his point to a degree, after spending upwards of 20 hours building a massive civilization from the ground up and stone age onward, it can be very frustrating to have Gandhi come along and nuke it all.

However, blaming Ghandi for gun violence seems a bit of a stretch.

My guess is that Ralph’s understanding of the current state of actual video gaming is a far cry (ha!) from the reality.

Traditional “Russian” Values Confuse Tea Party Activists

MOSCOW (AP) — Kissing his boyfriend during a protest in front of Russia’s parliament earned Pavel Samburov 30 hours of detention and the equivalent of a $16 fine on a charge of “hooliganism.” But if a bill that comes up for a first vote later this month becomes law, such a public kiss could be defined as illegal “homosexual propaganda” and bring a fine of up to $16,000.

The legislation being pushed by the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church would make it illegal nationwide to provide minors with information that is defined as “propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism.” It includes a ban on holding public events that promote gay rights. St. Petersburg and a number of other Russian cities already have similar laws on their books.

The bill is part of an effort to promote traditional Russian values as opposed to Western liberalism, which the Kremlin and church see as corrupting Russian youth and by extension contributing to a wave of protest against President Vladimir Putin’s rule.

Funny how totalitarian fascists and “good ole boys” share the same values and fears about society.

Another Mass Killer with an Assault Weapon Stopped by Good Guy WITHOUT a Gun

USA TODAY http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/1850677

ALBUQUERQUE — A 15-year-old boy charged with killing his parents and three siblings allegedly intended to add to the slaughter by driving to the nearest Walmart and dying in a shootout with police after another round of killings, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

Instead, the newspaper says, the teenager called a friend who talked him into meeting at Calvary Chapel, where his father had been pastor. A church security guard later called 911.

And again reality isn’t like the version the NRA sells.
